Sam Raimi himself was an indie filmmaker and made multiple shorts on his Super 8 camera with a couple of friends from college. All of his work would eventually lead into his first ever theatrically released film "The Evil Dead"

Sam Raimi has boosted my confidence in filmmaking altogether as he himself is very supportive of independent filmmakers. This is apparent when he picked Uruguayan filmmaker Fede Alvarez to direct "Evil Dead" in 2013 after seeing a short film he created.
